Today is the feast day of Saint Isaac Jogues, who died a martyr on the 19th of October, 1646.
After capture by the Mohawk he wrote: “Supra dorsum meum fabricaverunt peccatores,—’Sinners have kept their buildings upon my back.’ “ quoting Psalm 128.3.
On the 19th and 20th of October , 2019, Cardinal Geroge Pell wrote from his prison cell on the vagaries of attempting reform and opposing corruption.
Pell wrote: “The lessons of history are not entirely reassuring.” on the 19th and the next day mentioned ” ……. that sentence ….. in the Gospel which I find one of the most disconcerting ….. “…..when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?“ (Lk 18.8) ….. the scale of secularism in the western world is unprecedented in history …… The romance of Christianity is to be dead to the Law and alive in Christ Jesus ….. Justification and sanctification cannot come through the Law …..”
Then, if the best values of the West are to survive or be restroed as a social reality, the Law must be refomed.
